What’s actually preposterous is how this has become a race thing. From the very start it was a race thing and I am not surprised. Black people rallied behind young Mr. Martin the same way they did with Rodney King back in the day... and I get it. It sucks to have someone of your race get hurt by people of another race. But why don’t white people get to scream “racism!” when they get victimized by a Hispanic person, Asian person, or black person? White people didn’t riot when O.J. Simpson got acquitted. That’s just food for thought.
So, I’m white... in case you were wondering. And before you guys all go calling me racist, let me say that I know very little about the actual case. I just know what I have found out via Twitter and other social media outlets because it’s almost impossible to care less than I do about this case. The reason I don’t care is because the sole reason that it is in the public eye is because Mr. Martin was black and Mr. Zimmerman isn’t. As a rule I tend to try and ignore things that get blown out of proportion because of race. So if it’s racist to not care much about the Trayvon Martin case (which really should be called the George Zimmerman case since he’s the one on trial)... label me a racist.
I had a cousin that was tried for a similar thing. He’s white, the person he got into the altercation with was white... it didn’t make national news but I care much more about that case than this Trayvon Martin mess. Guilty verdict or innocent verdict, this was not a trial of white vs black, it was a trial of man vs state. End of story.
Last thing before I leave you, think about this...
You and I both know that riots and things of that nature will most likely take place because of this. And the majority of those rioting will be black people that are upset because Mr. Martin was supposedly profiled for being a troublemaker even though he wasn’t causing trouble. During these riots, however, the people involved will be doing the exact thing that they are upset Mr. Zimmerman assumed about Mr. Martin. Seriously... complain about profiling all you want but don’t go out and perpetuate the stereotypes that you are angry about. Violence is never the answer... except in video games and movies.
That’s it for now...
