So... Miley Cyrus. It all started with a VMA performance where she may have turned Robin Thicke into a pedophile (even though the real crime was the Beetlejuice suit he was wearing), she belittled little people (ironic, right?), and had the whole country gasping and talking about how shameful that performance was and how shocking it is that she used to be the smiley Hanna Montana. The important thing to remember, though, is that she had the whole country talking... any press is good press, right?
As stupid, pointless pop-culture stuff tends to do, though, that hype faded. So what’s next? Wrecking Ball! She decides she will make a video with Terry Richardson, a guy who’s notorious for objectifying women with his “artistic” work (see the Kate Upton “Cat Daddy” video). This, again, had the Twittersphere going nuts and everyone talking about how it’s basically pornography and has nothing to do with the song. What people weren’t talking about, shockingly, is how unsanitary it is to lick a sledgehammer. That’s the real issue with the video, right?
I guess she liked Terry’s deep, thoughtful, artsy work because she did another photoshoot with him where she is basically naked... with her tongue out which is like her trademark or something now. I guess “duckface” is out...
Now, It’s important to keep in mind though all this that her manager is her mother... yea... her mother. Parenting at its finest. But here’s the thing: maybe Miley is actually brilliant. She is talked about on a daily basis, her album is selling like crazy, she is rich and famous... she’s at the top of her career. Regardless of how satisfying that career is, it’s successful. She doesn’t pull any punches, she does and says what she wants, and at least she owns who she has become. So I guess we just have to let her do her thing and hope she has a spectacular public breakdown for us to enjoy.
The moral of the story is that if you don’t have morals, chastity, or shame, you can make more money than everyone else. And that we are all talking about Miley because of her shamelessness, not her music. And, believe it or not, she claims to be a musician.
That’s it for now...
