Paul Walker and The Other Guy...

In case you hadn’t heard, Roger Rodas passed away in a fiery car crash on Saturday. You probably didn’t hear much about him, though, because his passenger was the handsome film actor Paul Walker. I used to poke fun at his lack of emotional range as an actor as did others, I’m sure. I don’t think many people have ever called him one of the greatest actors of our generation. I must say, though, that I do love the “Fast and Furious” movies. But we’re getting off topic; back to the other guy...

Why didn’t you hear much about Roger Rodas, the 38 year old financial advisor and car enthusiast? Because he didn’t go “into the blue” with Jessica Alba. He probably didn’t have six pack abs and, even if he did, you didn’t get to see them on the big screen. He also didn’t cheat death in high speed car chases in the multi-billion dollar “Fast and Furious” film franchise. People are trying to act all high-and-mighty on Facebook posting things like “RIP to all those who die everyday and aren’t acknowledged because they aren’t celebrities.” Then they go get back on Twitter and see what Katy Perry tweeted about her new album.

The Rodas family and those close to them are mourning his passing but celebrities aren’t tweeting about that because they are too busy tweeting about Paul Walker... even if they have never worked with the guy. All because he was a famous actor.

It is sad these two passed away. Both had families and it’s even harder on those families during the holidays. But it’s sad when anyone passes away, even non-celebrities and people that don’t have famous friends.

Here’s the point:

This has further solidified in my mind how pitiful it is that we have a celebrity driven culture. And, maybe if that Porshe Carrera GT was celebrity driven, they wouldn’t have wrecked... ya know, because Brian O’Connor (Walker’s character in the “Fast” franchise) is a darn good driver... get it? Hate on me all you want for making jokes, but you can’t tell me it’s not ironic that a fiery car crash would end the life of a “Fast and Furious” star whose character faces countless brushes with death in a similar fashion on screen.

That’s it for now...
